Transitioning

Our teachers work closely together to provide a program which aims to deliver a smooth transition from Junior School to Middle School and from Middle School to Senior School.  The College Counsellor and Chaplain provide regular support for these transitions by sponsorship of the Peer Support Program, Leadership Training for student leaders, and personal support through counselling and spiritual mentoring.  The academic program in the Middle School is overseen by both the Middle School Coordinator and the Senior School Heads of Department.  Their purpose is to ensure a well-planned academic progression in each core subject area.

Years 5-8

Our program is designed to provide a progression from a primary-like environment in the first years of Middle school with a home room teacher delivering most subject content in the home room, through to Year 8 with fewer classes delivered in the home room and a range of specialist subjects delivered in specialist classrooms and laboratories around the College, including those used by the Senior School.  Students therefore progress in stages to a full high school program, making that transition much easier to manage than would otherwise be the case.  Year 8 students have many opportunities to lead out in Middle School roles and in many activities designed to give them increasing confidence and experience.  This emphasis on leadership assists in maintaining a high level of engagement in the program of the school.

Years 9-12

Students entering Year 9 have been encouraged to be active participants in their learning, maintain a high level of engagement in the classroom as well as in sporting and social aspects of school.  They are expected to continue with a high level of enthusiasm into the Senior School years.

At this stage of their education, students have the opportunity to begin specialisation through the selection of elective subjects at Year 9, and or even more elective subjects at Year 11.  This process assists in maintaining student commitment and engagement in the study of subjects for which they have the most interest.
