Gifted and Talented Education Program 2009

Teacher: Mrs Rosemary Hammerton

Term 1

The Lunchtime Writer’s Club for passionate writers from Years 5-12 operated for students who wanted to enter their work in writing competitions. During class time, Mrs Hammerton worked with Year 5 and 6 students developing their writing skills and vocabulary.

Term 2

Talented writers in Years 7 and 8 worked with Mrs Hammerton focusing mainly on the genre of poetry. Their best works were entered in the Taronga Foundation Poetry Prize competition.

Term 3

Some high ability students in Year 9 and 10 have been participating in a series of “Learning-how-to-Learn” workshops to develop their skills in goal-setting, time management, organisation and stress management.

In addition to the co-curricular extension opportunities, there have been a number of extra-curricular extension opportunities for students to be invovled in, such as the Year 10 and 11 Philosophy Conference held at Ascham in May, and some external Maths Competitions.
