Student Leadership
In middle school we recognise that young adolescents face many challenges associated with the transition from dependence to independence. Our dedicated leadership program facilitates practical leadership opportunities that enable students to be involved in the decision making process of the program. Opportunities include organising and leading out in chapels, helping to design and implement academic, social, or sporting activities and focusing on projects to help the community and the environment.
Chapels for students from middle school are run separately to senior school chapels. This allows for the development of student leadership as well as a safe, sharing environment where a larger number of younger students can be involved in the program. Opportunities for chapel participation include playing instruments, worship leadership, prayer, drama and special items.
As senior students in the middle school, Year 8 students are provided with leadership opportunities and training. Year 8 students can take on leadership roles such as Middle School Captains, Vice Captains, Sports House Captains, Chapel Coordinators, Social or Outreach Activities or Peer Support Leaders.
Middle School Captains
A boy and a girl captain are elected to co-ordinate the middle school SRC, which comprises other middle school student leadership roles (e.g. House Captains, Chapel Leaders, Service Leaders and Social Leaders.) This position includes various responsibilities, such as, making speeches to thank visitors, helping out other leaders and the projects they are running, working with younger middle school students encouraging them to be involved, contributing to the middle school newsletter, and representing middle school on the senior school SRC.
House Captains
One student (either a boy or a girl) from each House is elected to help with sport competitions held during lunchtime, lending equipment and assisting senior house captains at sporting carnivals and events.
Student Representative Council (SRC)
The Student Representative Council is a student elected council which meets regularly to assist with the development of the school. The council encourages students to make a postive input into the running of the school. A staff advisor oversees the council. The committee is comprised of students from each year level.
Chapel Leaders
Two student leaders coordinate the Chapel Team, which is made up of one representative from each year level in the middle school. These students work with the Chaplain to assist in organising components of the weekly Chapel program. In addition to this they also help organise the middle school WOSE (Week Of Spiritual Emphasis) program.
Service Leaders
Two student leaders are elected to coordinate the Service Team, which is made up of one representative from each year level in the middle school. They work with the Chaplain and the Middle School Coordinator to organise a variety of service activities for middle school students to participate in. Some examples include; MAD (Make A Difference days), themed days to raise money, RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) projects, and community outreach activities
Social Activities Leaders
Two student leaders coordinate the Social Team, which is made up of one representative from each year level in the middle school. They work with the Middle School Coordinator to organise social activities for middle school students. This could include social activities both during school at lunchtime such as BBQ’s, picnics, and chess competitions, or after school socials such as going to watch a movie, live performances, and sporting events.
Media Leaders
Two students are elected to work with the Middle School Coordinator to help take photos and write weekly news items for the middle school.
