Curriculum
A values based and challenging curriculum is delivered to students attending middle school at Sydney Adventist College. The middle school provides opportunities for intervention and acceleration as needs are identified. In keeping with the Christian ethos of our College, specific core values are focused on across every year level on our Strathfield campus.
In the middle school, each class has a dedicated homeroom teacher. This teacher is specifically trained to work with middle school students. Homeroom teachers know their students well and communicate with parents frequently and openly in order to support each child’s fullest academic and personal development. They provide students with a learning structure which gives opportunities for students to learn independently.
Some subjects are taught by the homeroom teacher while others are taught by specialty teachers from the senior school. Specialty rooms are purpose built for a particular subject and are extremely well resourced. State-of-the-art computer laboratories, science, woodwork, metalwork and home-science laboratories as well as art, ceramics, photography and music studios are all available on the Strathfield campus of Sydney Adventist College.
The following curriculum model is an example of our middle school structure, which illustrates the gradual process of moving from one teacher in junior school to mutiple specailty teachers in senior school. This process allows middle school students to transition in a supportive learning environment.
