Middle School
Students in middle school have started 2010 on a real high, literally! Our middle school students have just returned from climbing the highest mountain in Australia, Mt Kosciuszko, as one of their peer support team challenges at middle school camp. This is just the beginning of some of the heights students in middle school will be reaching for throughout 2010.
The middle years are a time of incredible change for a young person! Not only are they learning who they are, what they value, and how they see themselves, but they are also learning where they fit in a world that is constantly changing.
Many students in Grades 5 - 8 often struggle with emotions that tell them one minute they are unaccepted, unattractive, and useless, and yet moments later they may feel like they can conquer the world. They feel old enough to start making decisions for themselves and in fact often demand to do so, and yet, when faced with a choice to make, they can’t decide what to do, leaving them feeling overwhelmed and often anxious. In addition to this, they daily struggle with feeling accepted as they are, often taking their value from those around them, instead of understanding that each one of them is unique and wonderful and has something to offer.
Our young people really need lots of guidance as they form their attitudes and values about people, about school and about life – otherwise we “lose them” academically, socially and/or emotionally. At Sydney Adventist College Middle School, we want to help our students become people of integrity and character, certain of their worth and value because we have a Saviour who not only created them in all their uniqueness but also cherishes them in it! We want our young people to know this through and through – each one of them is a treasured trophy of God and in turn is treasured by us!
