The College offers a Christian curriculum and provides a full range of subjects that meet all the government requirements for the award of a School Certificate in Year 10 (SC) and a Higher School Certificate (HSC) in Year 12.

School Certificate

The School Certificate is issued by the Board of Studies (BOS) to eligible students who complete four years of secondary schooling to Year 10. To complete a course of study for the School Certificate, a student must have a satisfactory record of attendance and application (effort). Students are also required to sit for the external exams in English, Mathematics, Science, Australian History/Geography and Civics which take place in Term 4.

Higher School Certificate

This program incorporates the final two years of schooling leading to a Higher School Certificate in Year 12. To complete a course of study for the HSC students must continue to have satisfactory reports in the area of attendance and application.

Academic Rules

Students are strongly advised to seek subject information from the College Administration or Careers Adviser prior to selecting a course of study in Years 11 and 12. Choice of subjects is administered by the director of Studies and Heads of Department may offer advice to students. Students will not be permitted to change subjects after Term One, Year 11.

An application to change or drop a subject is made to the Director of Studies and must be approved by the Departments.

Placement tests in English and Maths are given in Year 10 to guide the student in making the most suitable subject choices for Years 11 and 12.

Attendance

Regular attendance at school is required by law up to the age of 15 years. The Board of Studies also requires students to apply themselves with diligence and sustained effort to the set tasks and experiences provided in the course by the school. The College expects attendance to be in excess of 85%.

The College requires a written reason for every absence. This should be presented to the Pastoral Care teacher on the first day back at school after an absence. Unexcused absence is considered a serious matter and may affect a student’s enrolment at the College. Repeated absences may result in deregistration. The College would appreciate prior notice of expected absences. During the course of a school day, students are expected to attend all their classes, unless excused by the Principal or Deputy.

Further, courtesy requires that for any late arrivals at College appointments, explanation be given to teachers. This usually consists of a note from the teacher detaining the student. Students arriving after roll call has commenced are to report to the College Office. Unexcused lateness to school is considered a serious matter. Students are given one day to provide a note with an adequate reason.

School Hours

School commences at 8.40am and closes at 3.10pm. Fridays during Term 2 and 3 are the only exception when the school closes at 2.30pm.

Roll Marking

The law requires that the College mark the rolls twice each day to indicate attendance, however, as part of the our duty of care the class roll is checked every period.

Homework

Homework is an integral part of the College system and parents can expect it to be regularly set. This enables students to practise and memorise the work done in school. While teachers do their best to assist and encourage students, it must be stressed that the student's initiative and effort are the determining factors of success. The encouragement and assistance of parents is also important.

Homework and independent study are required on a regular basis and the following times are recommended minimums per night:

Year 71 hour
Year 81 hour
Year 91-1/2 hours
Year 101 1/2 - 2 hours
Year 113 hours
Year 124 hours

Each student is required to keep a College supplied diary to record all homework and assignments set. It would be appreciated if parents of Years 7-10 could check this and sign it each week. The diary is not to be defaced with liquid paper, graffiti or pictures. If it is, then a new diary may need to be purchased.

Texts and stationery

The required text and stationery lists are available from the office. Items that are available on registration day are on a cash basis only. All other requirements are needed from the commencement of classes and must be purchased within the first two weeks of school.

Hire texts are arranged for students to minimise costs to parents. A fee is paid at registration, and books need to be returned in a satisfactory condition. Students are expected to care for these books, and are not permitted to write in them or deface them.

Each child enrolling at the beginning of the year will be granted a book allowance from the State Government. The 2004 figures are:

Years 7-10$35.39 each student
Years 11-12$87.47 each student

This allowance will be credited to your Term 2 fee account.

Assessment

In Year 7-10 Academic Reports are issued at mid-year (Term Two) and year-end (Term 4), with an interim report during Term 1. In Year 12 formal reports are issued in early June and December while Year 11 reports are issued early in June and October. Parents are urged to communicate with the College whenever they desire additional information on student progress.

Assessment is based on a range of student activities, and these vary from class to class. Students are expected to achieve a satisfactory level in their academic work each year in order to gain promotion to the next year.

Assignments are regularly set. Late assignments will be penalised unless prior satisfactory arrangements have been made with the teacher. Rules governing assessment for Years 10-12 will be found in separate assessment manuals for these years.

Distance Education & Open High School

Other subjects not offered in the college subject lines may also be selected as part of the College program. These can be chosen in place of any subject in the above option list apart from Section A. (Strict conditions apply).

School-based Part-time Traineeships (2 Unit Content Endorsed) Courses)

The College also offers the opportunity for a limited number of positions in the area of Hospitality, Office Administration, Retail and Child Care. These subjects can be chosen in addition to, or in place of subjects in Section C. Most of these courses do not contribute to the UAI (University Admissions Index).

NOTE: The College reserves the right to change subject options as may be necessary.
