Study Programs

The Adventist College of English, which operates as an annexe of Sydney Adventist College, offers the High School Preparation Course (HSPC) for overseas students. The course caters for those who either wish to enter the Australian High School educational system or learn English in a school environment for a few weeks.

The program is considered unique by the accrediting bodies in that students will take part in many mainstream activities while studying intensive English. They will operate under the normal College rules and will attend some mainstream classes where it is deemed appropriate to their skill level. They will also be involved in College assemblies, sport and pastoral care programs and mix with the general student body during the normal recess and lunch periods.

College Staff

The Adventist College of English staff is well-qualified and also experienced in teaching students from non-English speaking backgrounds. Small classes provide students with the opportunity for individual attention, and this is supported by a wide range of computing and audio-visual resources. All students have access to a well-appointed library with Internet access and other search facilities.

Student Placement

Students enrolling in the Adventist College of English are, first of all, assessed in order to determine their level of English. According to the result, they are then placed in one of four levels of English ranging from elementary to upper intermediate. If a student has an intermediate level of English, he/she will also be placed in a mainstream subject of his/her choice with Sydney Adventist College (SAC). Each level is equivalent to one school term (10 weeks).
